Hand of the Artist by AmandaSpaid Hand of the Artist by AmandaSpaid
So one morning I walked downstairs, groggy, and on my way to the kitchen I paused, looking out into the hallway.
“Holy shit! Lookit that!”
And dad gives me a weird look from the computer and goes “What?”
And I tried to explain to him that the quality of light that was falling through the glass door and across the laudry room’s dirty linoleum floor was particularly amazing. And then he just sort of gave me a puzzled look as I went out, picked some crocuses, grabbed a little Irish crystal bud-vase and started taking pictures lying on my belly. Almost late to class from all that, but I had a stupid grin on my face the whole drive to school. And then, so that I could draw from them with the idea still fresh, I incorporated it into a drawing project that we had to do. So. Voila. I swear to God, the way I’m going to die is going to involve me driving in my car and then going “Holy Shit! Lookit the quality of light on the side of that bus!” right before I plow into the car in front of me. Sheesh.
Again, colored pencils on toned paper.

Amazing. I recently found out that colored pencils could be a "real" art medium, and your drawing is the perfect example. I love how it's very expressive and realistic at the same time. Striking colors. Great job + story!!

I wonder why I never noticed you...
I'm just glad I did. It's people like you who make me want to practice more and more traditional art:)
I like the texure and the realistic look to it. This looks a bit unfinished, is this a W.I.P, or is that the shadow?
AmandaSpaid Featured By Owner Nov 2, 2007  Professional General Artist
Aww, shucks.

Yeah, it's not all photoshop magic. Traditional can still be pretty damned impressive. I left it with an unfinished feel because I didn't want it to come off as just another copy of a photo, and I also wanted to leave a little bit of the raw technique in there as well.

I love your comment about the bus...actually I saw a yellow school bus reflection in a black car a couple of weeks ago...asked my daughter if she would grab my camera and take the shot for me...she didn't...opportunity lost. I make sure I don't have the camera within reach when I drive...that way I keep my attention where it belongs. Beautiful drawing...well worth photographing so you could come back and do the work you did!

This is really good. The realism in this is beautiful. And I love your story it made me laugh, cause it sounds like what I do at times and say sometimes. Haha.

Believe it or not I've had those "incidents" while driving around. I never got into anything serious but I've gone off-road a few times.
Awesome drawing... just awesome.
